A Small and Delicious Christmas Inspiration
All of our plastic packaging is manufactured in Germany. To reflect this, we are sharing another classic German Christmas cookie recipe as a little inspiration for your holiday baking. Spekulatius is one of the most popular Christmas cookies in Germany and often appears on shelves at the beginning of autumn. In the Netherlands and Belgium, it is traditionally enjoyed around St. Nicholas Day.
Ingredients
- 500 g flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 6 drops rum flavouring
- 250 g sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla sugar
- 1 packet speculaas spice
- 2 eggs
- 1 pinch of salt
- 100 g ground almonds
- 200 g butter
Preparation
Combine all ingredients to form a smooth dough and let it rest in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
If you have a spekulatius mold, lightly flour it and press the dough into the mold. The dough remains in the mold during baking. Alternatively, roll out the dough and cut out shapes.
Preheat the oven to 180 °C (fan-assisted). Place the molds on the middle rack and bake the cookies for about 10 minutes, depending on the desired level of browning. Remove and let cool on a wire rack. Enjoy!
