From the Black Forest to Bonn: The Journey of an Iconic Cake
The Black Forest Cake is one of Germany’s most celebrated confections. Its roots lie deep in the Black Forest: cherry brandy from the region, fragrant Black Forest cherries, and the signature combination of dark chocolate and cream. Even the cake’s colors reflect the traditional costume – black skirt, white blouse, and bright red Bollenhut pom-poms.
But the story doesn’t end there: the version we know today was developed in 1915 by pastry chef Josef Keller in Bad Godesberg – that is, in Bonn. A Black Forest idea that became an iconic cake in Bonn.
Just like the cake, our company brings together these two regions: our Black Forest site in Waldkirch and our site in Bonn. A sweet success story that unites two regions in a special way.
