How the World Celebrates St. Nicholas Day
One of Kautex’s greatest strengths is the diversity of perspectives and ideas we can draw upon as a global company. With this in mind, we would like to take you on a short journey this St. Nicholas Day, as this traditional holiday is celebrated quite differently around the world.
In the Netherlands, Sinterklaas arrives in festive parades, visiting hospitals, schools, and homes, leaving small gifts behind.
In Luxembourg, “De Kleeschen” visits children – accompanied by his companion “Houseker,” who pulls either a gift or a birch rod from his sack.
In Poland and Ukraine, children find small presents under their pillows.
In Greece, St. Nicholas is honored as the patron saint of sailors, sometimes even with ship siren concerts. And in Bulgaria, families traditionally share a festive fish dish on December 6 – historically carp, though today many types of fish are enjoyed.
We wish you a wonderful St. Nicholas Day – no matter how you celebrate it.
